The 5th annual Tring Blues Festival (AKA 'The Near London Blues Festival' ) takes place on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th March 2007 at The Court Theatre, Tring, Herts. For this year's festival we are proud to present ex Whitesnake guitarist Micky Moody and his Band plus a host of other superb bands and artists. Coincidentally, the first Tring Blues Festival had Bernie Marsden's Band headlining.

Unfortunately, due to the low Sunday attendance last year, the festival this year just takes place over the Friday evening of 16th March and Saturday 17th March.

Tickets can be obtained in the usual way by calling Rocking the Blues on 01296 634991, email tickets@rockingtheblues.com or by calling the Court Theatre box office on 01442 823130. You can also buy your tickets in person from Michael Edmunds Insurance at 2 Church Yard ,Tring during normal office hours. Shortly, you will be able to buy your tickets on line at Ticket Web. In the meantime you can reserve your tickets online at www.courttheatre.co.uk

Due to previous years' sell outs, buying tickets in advance is highly recommended

If you want to take part in the jam and open mic session, call 01296 634991 to book a place or take a chance and turn up on the day. All those booking a spot in advance will definitely get to play and we will try to fit in everyone else if possible. In the past this blues jam has been very popular.

The MCs for the festrval will be Bob & Norm from The Blues Show on www.gtfm.co.uk

The Bands & Artists

The Micky Moody Band (ex Whitesnake)

www.mickymoody.com

Micky Moody is best known for his role in the definitive Whitesnake line-up, during which time he toured worldwide, acquiring many gold discs and wide recognition.

His career begins with playing in a school band with Paul Rodgers and after leaving school he joined the highly acclaimed Juicy Lucy, which was a large step towards rock stardom, with major tours of Britain, Europe and the USA.  When Juicy Lucy split, Micky co-founded Snafu, combining his rock-style guitar with down-home stateside grooves, recording three albums. As a sideman, Micky has featured alongside such classic British singers as Graham Bonnet, Frankie Miller, Chris Farlowe, Sheena Easton, Roger Chapman, Elkie Brookes and Eric Burdon. Visitors from the states such as Meat Loaf, Matt guitar Murphy, Ben E. King and Walter Trout have all employed his talents to enhance their performances.

Bluesman Big Gilson & Blues Dynamite

www.biggilson.com

Big Gilson has released eleven CDs, and honed his chops the last fourteen years gigging in Brazil, Argentina, Europe and USA. He opened for Steve Winwood on his Brazilian tour, Johnny Rivers (70.000 people audience), and twice to the master B.B. King. While touring America, and gigging at such clubs as Florida’s Bamboo Room and New York’s Blue Note, the band knocked out such blues gods as Corey Harries, Duke Robillard, Lonnie Brooks, Magic Slim, Saffire, Walter “Wolfman” Washington and Buddy Guy, who extended the Boy from Brazil an open invitation to play his Legends Club anytime. “..His slide playing is disturbingly virtuosic...”.

“...When I see such a young man so far from America, playing the blues so  well, I feel happy and proud that my mission in this life is done”   B.B. King

“There are lots of bands out there, in America and around the world, who play the blues. They play the blues but you can tell they don’t feel the blues. Big Gilson is most definitely not one of those. This boy may hail from Rio, but he plays like he was born and raised in South Oak Cliff.” John Nova  Lomax - Music Independent Magazine, Houston-Texas There is no higher testament than from a native Texan and lifelong blues freak.

“…Big Gilson is an excellent guitarist as well as a splendid slide guitarist and a fine song writer in addition. He plays a scorching electric slide. Watch for great things to come in the future from this very fine artist…” Tom Branson (Bluesrockers )

"...The United States birthplace and home of the Blues has been invaded again by another bona fide "Blues Man" from a foreign shore: "Blues Man," not just a player of blues but a musician who demonstrates through his interpretation and musicianship that blues courses through his veins with every beat of his heart.. " The Delta Snake, by Michael Roberts )

“…You can’t confine an artistic idiom, or creative spirit. Blues, the quintessential music form of the USA, reached across continents and seized Brazilian singer/guitarist Big Gilson. The music’s good and so is the message. This is cross-culturalism of an inspiring form. A workingman’s musical form from the USA found its way to South America where it was embraced by a dedicated, open-minded musician, who honed his skills in the face of naysayers, and presently enjoys respect from blues communities in two nations. In other words, barriers ceased to be, as art, artist, and folk met on an agreeable common ground. If we could accomplish such melding in other matters in this geopolitical era, we would be on far firmer ground as a species…”  Tim Schuller - Dallas, Texas

Tim Schuller edited Music Hound Blues: The Essential Album Companion (Schirmer), and has written for Blues Access, Living Blues, Downbeat, the Dallas Observer, and other publications.

The Guv’nors

In doing so, they have gained a solid reputation as one of the best and most original bands on the blues circuit of London and the Home Counties.

 Robin Bibi Band

www.robinbibiband.co.uk

It's exuberant passionate, dynamic, exciting and fun! It's music played straight from the heart, it will move your head, your heart and of course your feet!

Roland Chadwick

www.rolandchadwick.com

Australian composer, guitarist and internationally acclaimed recording artist. A trained classical guitarist, he plays "anything with frets" and brings a refreshing sound to blues guitar music.

"to the music of contemporary greats such as Brouwer, Domeniconi, and Dyens;I will now add Roland Chadwick. Bluntly, his music is nothing short of genius." Minor 7th Review

Half Man - Half Guitar. Some say he’s the Guitar Slinger. Some say he’s the Wizard of Oz. Others say they saw him in the Cotswolds selling his soul to a blind man with a Red Hat holding a magic plectrum made of solid sound. The mystery deepens and the truth may never be told but those in the know, know that Roland Chadwick is music to his bones.

Matthew Ord

www.mattheword.com

Re Loaded

www.re-loaded.co.uk
