Storm Warning
Storm Warning
weave an intoxicating mix of contemporary blues and rock with
traditional elements and jazzy overtones. They are a band of
five diverse influences and one of the most musically exciting,
dynamic and interesting bands on the UK blues/rock scene. The
blues are the heart of the sound, but the blues is a form that
changes its shape and character to suit whoever is playing it.
The blues harmonica of Son Maxwell shares the lead with the rock
and jazz influenced guitar of Bob Moore, with the classic
Hammond and piano sounds of Ian Salisbury adding an additional
blues-based dimension. Drummer Roger Willis, formerly with
Capability Brown and Krazy Kat, and bassist Derek White complete
the line-up, forming what The Blues Band bass man Gary Fletcher
described as “an ace rhythm section.”
Storm Warning’s
debut album, ‘Breaking Out’, is a consistent selling album. It
received excellent reviews including Blues In Britain
(10 out of 10 rating), Blues Matters! Magazine and Blues
Revue USA. The band recorded a live session for Paul Jones BBC
Radio 2 blues programme which was broadcast last year along with
album tracks from the ‘Breaking Out’ CD.
‘Something Real’, the eagerly awaited 2nd album, has eight
superbly crafted original songs and one Lucky Peterson cover. It
was recorded at M.A.R.S Studios by Martin Atkinson who has
worked on the latest albums by Buddy Guy, Lucky Peterson and
Deborah Coleman, for the JSP label. The CD is scheduled for UK
release on 9th June and will be available throughout
the UK, at all good record shops and available online at music
websites including Amazon, HMV, Tesco, Blues CD Store etc.
Just a few of the many
excellent quotes Storm Warning have received
Storm Warning’s live performances are powerful and dynamic,
leading one blues journalist to write at the end of their review
for Blues in Britain magazine;
“This is a tight, classy outfit that should be on every
promoter’s wish list.”
“In essence
this CD is a collection of fine songs by fine musicians, well
worth adding to the collection and a cracking first release.
Rating 10” –
Blues in Britain
magazine
“Son Maxwell has a brilliant blues voice…..really an excellent
CD …..damn fine band who have a distinct individuality. Very
much recommended.”
– Blues Matters magazine
“For all their rocking they’d actually remembered it was about
the Blues! A cracking set and particular mention must be made of
frontman Stuart Maxwell’s harmonica work which added another
dimension to the band’s sound. This was a much needed band for
the Festival’s Monday”
Blues Matters review from the Great British R&B Festival in
Colne
“England’s five-piece Storm Warning bring a contemporary feel
to classic blues and blues-rock….Bob Moore’s guitar work is
tasteful. Leader Son Maxwell sings like Billy Gibbons did 30
years ago.”
Blues Revue USA
Storm Warning have played most of the major blues festivals in
the UK and are in constant demand for appearances at blues
clubs. Their popularity is increasing further a field with the
first festival appearance at the Rawa Blues Festival playing to
5,000 people and the festival was screened on national TV in
Poland. The band were on the main billing with award winning
Janvia Magness and The Ayslum Street Spankers from the USA.
They have also recently returned from a tour of Holland where
they had a great reception.
Storm Warning have appearances lined up at major UK blues
festivals this year and are currently arranging more club gigs
in the UK and Europe. Storm Warning are certainly storming the
British Blues scene and soon to storm the rest of Europe and
maybe the world!

Their song writing ability is a strong point with many numbers, I suspect,
destined to become much loved standards. A while ago, on the strength of their
CD, I described Storm Warning as cogent and cookin’. Live, they are all that and
more.
This is a tight, classy outfit that should be on every promoter’s wish list.
