Blues Jam 13th March
2004
The Saturday lunchtime blues jam was once again expertly
hosted by Roadhouse, sounding better than ever starting with Blues Highway. They
played a set which included numbers from their present live cd ‘Roadhouse
& Friends’ and also featured songs from their forthcoming studio cd the
100+ crowd gave them a very warm reception.
After a short break they invited jammers on to the stage
and . Opening up the jam was organiser Derek White on bass, Roger Hunt
(Roadhouse drummer), Tring guitarist Colin McHugh and his son Sean. They started
with what Colin described as "an experiment", playing the Groundhogs
Split Part 2 with Sean taking the lead. The second number was an old favourite
'Hey Joe' with Colin on lead, at one time on his knees as he attempted to play a
solo and turn up the volume on the amp at the same time. The audience gave a
very loud applause showing they were up for a good jam.
Several jammers including included a guitarist,
bassist, harmonica player, a trombone player and a 12
year old girl guitarist, got up next for a twelve bar. Others then got up
and played a series of well known songs. Around 25 jammers in total took part.
Highlights included Saiichi Sugiyama, Japanese Blues master, playing with members of Re
Loaded featuring Freddie King's Hideaway and the wonderful vocals of 18 year old Tamsin Salisbury
on ‘Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out’ accompanied by jammers
including her Dad, Ian Salisbury (keyboard player with The J.Fordaway Band and
Storm Warning).
